Reflexology in Lewes
Reflexology is a natural healing art, based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all organs and parts of the body.
Reflexology involves the application of pressure to these reflexes to encourage the body to rebalance and heal itself.
Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures. It is not a medical treatment and does not diagnose, but works on an individual basis and may help to:
Increase energy levels
Reduce muscular tension
Improve mood
Aid sleep
Relieve stress
Reflexology can be used throughout your life - supporting you during illness and maintaining you during health.
What to expect during a reflexology session
Medical history
A reflexology session usually lasts an hour. A brief medical history is taken during the first session.
Pressure points
After a warm up massage, pressure is applied to reflex areas on each foot. Most people experience a deep sense of relaxation. Some points may be tender, but by working gently over these, the tenderness will usually diminish. The treatment lasts 45 minutes and ends with a brief foot massage using aromatherapy oils.
Feedback
Afterwards any findings are discussed and it is usual for you to give feedback about how you felt during the treatment. Techniques that you can apply to reflex areas on your hands between treatments may also be given.
Follow up appointments
Frequency of follow up appointments depends on the reasons for having reflexology and is discussed at the first consultation.
Often reflexology is used to help relieve the stress and tension that our busy lives generate and monthly visits are adequate. For specific issues, it is likely that a course of treatment will be recommended.
Initially, these would be fortnightly. Reflexology has a cumulative effect and so each treatment builds on the benefits felt from the previous treatment. After several fortnightly sessions, treatments are reduced to 3 weekly intervals and finally maintenance treatments given at 4-6 weekly intervals.
